A three-year-old toddler was seriously injured last week in a fall from a cruise ship balcony, resulting in the child’s being medically evacuated from the ship.

According to a report about the incident in the NewYorkPost.com the girl was injured on Friday as she sailed with her family on the Carnival Breeze cruise ship from Galveston, Texas to the Bahamas. The article indicates that the girl fell from the balcony of her family’s stateroom and hit the deck below it, suffering injuries to her face.

Following the incident, the child was medically evacuated from the ship by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter, and flown to a medical facility in Tampa, Florida. The girl reportedly suffered a severely swollen face, which possibly indicates fractures, but it is not known how serious her injuries were.

A spokesperson for Carnival, speaking to a Houston area news channel, said “I can confirm that yesterday afternoon on board the cruise ship Carnival Breeze, a three-year-old child fell from her stateroom balcony to an outdoor deck area one level below …. She was in stable condition on board the vessel and was airlifted to Tampa as a precaution”.

According to the report, a day earlier a 30-year-old woman was medically evacuated from the Carnival Valor after suffering a head injury in a fall. The Valor was in the vicinity of Galveston at the time of the incident.
