Report: Travelers at Heightened Risk of Rape In Jamaica and The Bahamas

Proudly Representing Cruise Ship Cases in Miami, Nearby Areas of Florida and Nationwide

ABC 13 News Now reports that over the past seven years 78 American citizens have been raped in Jamaica, one of the Caribbean’s hottest cruise destinations.

The violence against U.S. citizens in Jamaica (and between people who live on the island) has risen to such levels that the U.S. State Department has issued multiple warnings discouraging Americans from traveling to the country.

But Jamaica is not the only Caribbean destination that has been the subject of a travel warning. The Bahamas has also come under scrutiny. The report says that a State Department advisory warned that "sexual assault is common, even during daylight hours and in tourist areas" in the Bahamas. Of special concern are “Jet ski operators are known to commit sexual assaults against tourists, including minors," the warning added.
