A passenger who was sailing on the Royal Caribbean Independence of the Seas has been reported missing after falling overboard from the ship.

The passenger reportedly fell (or jumped) from the ship’s 12th deck as it sailed about 33 miles off the coast of Key Largo, Florida. The passenger was reported missing at about 1:50 a.m.

The U.S. Coast Guard was called in to help the search for the missing traveler, and reportedly employed a Coast Guard boat, cutter, helicopter, and airplane in the search.

As the day progressed reports began to indicate that the missing passenger may have jumped from the ship, as opposed to having accidentally fallen overboard. Rumors swirled that indicated that the victim “did a swan dive off the top deck” and may have been dared to jump by friends.
