- A man was reported missing from the Carnival Elation cruise ship on Monday.
- Reports indicate that he can be seen on cruise ship surveillance footage going overboard from the 11th deck.
- The U.S. Coast Guard has announced a search for the man.
A U.S. Coast Guard bulletin earlier today indicated that the Guard is looking for a man who was reported overboard from a cruise ship in the area of the Bahamas.
The missing man, identified as 24 year-old Kelvin Wellons of Warner Robins, GA, reportedly went missing from the Carnival Elation cruise ship on Monday. There are reports that Carnival has closed circuit surveillance footage of him falling overboard from the ship’s 11th deck on Monday morning as the ship was about 15 miles from Abaco, Bahamas.
Upon being notified of the disappearance, the Coast Guard scrambled assets from its Clearwater and Miami bases. There has currently been no indication as to whether or not any sign of Wellons has been found.
Dozens of people fall overboard from cruise ships annually. The industry has been slow to implement so-called ”man overboard” technology, which would alert ship officials to missing passengers more promptly.
