A recently filed lawsuit claims that a pre-teen girl was sexually assaulted by a cruise ship crew member in early 2017.
According to the complaint the 12-year-old Iowa resident was asleep in her cabin aboard the Norwegian Escape cruise ship when a crew member, 30-year-old Rajkumar Panneer Selvam, entered the room. The suit alleges that Selvam began to grope the victim, and when she awoke he continued to sexually assault her. As the victim fully awakened from her sleep she says that she positively identified Selvam and told him “no”. It was then that Selvam reportedly asked the victim if she would like her room cleaned.
After leaving her room the victim told her family member about what had happened, and the family then reported the incident to cruise personnel. According to the Miami Herald, an FBI investigation revealed that Selvam admitted that “he did, in fact, touch her buttocks and pubic region with his hand, skin to skin, while the minor victim was sleeping on the bed.”
The family is now seeking justice in civil court.
