Cruise Ships Calling on Key West may have to alter their plans after a ship destroyed one of the island’s moorings late last month.

Newsweek.com reports that the Silversea Silver Spirit cruise ship crashed into a mooring on November 27 when it was unable to turn around. Though the collision caused only minor damage to the ship, Key West’s City Manager says that the mooring was completely destroyed. He estimates that it will cost half a million dollars to fix the damage.

Though the exact cause of the collision is under investigation, published reports indicate that the ship may have become caught in wind gusts which were whipping at the time of the crash.
