Proudly Representing Cruise Ship Cases in Miami, Nearby Areas of Florida and Nationwide

This week 12 people were killed, and many more injured, when a tour bus crashed in Mexico. The bus was filled with cruise ship passengers on excursion from the Royal Caribbean Serenade of the Seas and the Celebrity Equinox. The incident and loss of life has caused outrage among victims and has left many wondering just how safe cruise ship excursions really are.

Though data on the frequency of cruise ship excursion incidents may be difficult to obtain, due to the lack of reporting, some notable examples of cruise ship excursion injury are relevant to the discussion.

  • In February a bus carrying passengers from the Celebrity Solstice cruise ship crashed, and went down a 150-foot embankment. Several were injured in the incident, and two people were critically injured.
  • In July it was reported that a cruise ship passenger was seriously injured or killed while on excursion.
  • In 2011 a cruise ship passenger on excursion was shot and killed during a gang shootout on the island of St. Thomas.
