A passenger fell overboard from the Carnival Fantasy cruise ship last week, as the ship sailed from Cozumel, Mexico to Mobile, Alabama. Now a couple that was onboard the ship during the search for the victim has recounted the incident with a local news outlet.

Cameron George was traveling on the Fantasy with his fiancé, Tracie Green, when he noticed on a screen that the ship appeared to have turned around. “We noticed on the monitor that the ship had turned around and appeared to be traveling back to Mexico. That’s when I went out on my balcony to see exactly what was going on”, he told WKRG.com.

He reports that the captain informed passengers that the crew was looking for something in the water, but that he realized that the ship’s officials were likely looking for a missing passenger. “Of course, us having gone on several cruises before, we know that a ship doesn’t turn around unless someone’s fallen overboard or someone’s been spotted in the water,” he said.

Despite the fact that a passenger on the Fantasy had reportedly spotted the missing person, floating in the water, the victim was never located. After covering thousands of miles while searching for the missing person, the U.S. Coast Guard suspended its efforts on Thursday.
