Are Cruise Companies Doing Enough to Protect Passengers?

At the end of 2018, several cruise ship passengers were lost at sea after going overboard from the ship on which they were travelling. One of the missing was a man who had special needs. He was reportedly traveling with a group of special needs individuals at the time of his disappearance.

The rash of cruise ship over boards has resulted in many asking if the industry is doing enough to prevent passengers from falling from the ships.

While the cruise industry usually reports that missing passengers purposefully jumped from the ships, it is impossible to be sure. What is known is that from a public relations standpoint cruise companies likely believe that it is less damaging to claim that a passenger jumped from a ship, an intentional act, as opposed to accidently fell overboard.
