We at Hickey Law Firm often recommed our clients, friends, and familile s to stay away from cruising all together. We have seen just too many cases of negligence, sexual assault, rape. and unsanitary situations to honestly recommend a cruise vacation to anyone. But, people continue to cruise, with last year seeing Americans tak about 10 million cruises. Because of this, we are going to point out some of the most common mistakes people make when crusising. Hopefully this will help you and your family avoid some costly mistakes.
This list is a continuation of our list from yesterday. Here you will find tips number 4 – 6
4. DO NOT drink too much. It is soo easy to go overboard with the drinking aboard a cruise ship. There are countless opportunities to drink, from the bar, to the restaurant, to those helpful employees who just stand around with pre-made drinks ready to sell. But, drinking too much may come with consequences not usually seen back at home. For one, you may blow an entire day of your trip hung over. But, more seriously, numerous sexual assaults and disappearances happen every year aboard cruise ships as a result of over drinking. Remember to pace yourself.
5. Be aware of your surroundings. About 50 percent of all cruise ship sexual assaults are perpetrated by cruise line employees, with the other 50 percent being perpetrated by passengers. Keep a keen eye open and use your common sense. If you see something that just does not look right, such as a cruise line employee going into a room with a young girl, you may be her last line of defense. We dont want to be alarmist with this tip, but it is important to use common sense and know what is going on around you.
6. Wash your hands. Many people have never heard of Norovirus. If you havent, lets hope you never enounter it while aboard a cruise ship. It is a highly communicable virus that seems to love cruise ships, among other places. Washing your hands may help prevent you from getting sick, though that is by no means certain. If nothing else, it is a good habit.
