According to the Sacramento Bee, an employee of the Celebrity Cruises’ Constellation that was found with child pornography on his personal computer was sentenced Friday, December 20 after pleading guilty to one count of receiving child pornography. The 34-year-old native of Chico, California worked as an audiovisual manager on the Constellation. Since August of 2010, the perpetrator had a residence in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but he spent most of his time abroad on the Constellation.
The FBI investigation began in the summer of 2010 when a Chico resident received a personal computer at an estate sale which the seller believed to be broken. The Chico resident was a computer technician and managed to power up the computer which contained 450 images and 250 videos of 44 different children engaging in sexual acts. The computer was turned over to the FBI. Soon after the discovery, the perpetrator was preparing to leave the U.S. for Mexico and Panama. Transcriptions of the perpetrators online chat-room conversations revealed that he often paid for sex with children in Mexico.
Thankfully, the FBI located the perpetrator in San Diego before he had the opportunity to leave for Central America on the Constellation. The perpetrator’s laptop on the vessel also contained child pornography. U.S. District Judge Garland E. Burrell Jr. sentenced the perpetrator to eight years in prison on Friday, December 20.
